Update for Coursing Ability Tests

We have now been approved for TWO coursing ability tests to be held Sunday, May 1. There is a 40 dog limit on each test. (This is two separate events.) We have posted a revised entry form which has both event numbers on it. Just check one or both (depending on whether or not you want to run one test or two). The tests will run consecutively.

The entry fee is $20 per test by pre-entry and $25 per test, day of trial entry.

If you have already sent in the first entry blank, that’s fine. If you have printed out the original entry form, and you want to enter both tests, just write the second event number (2016496104) on the entry blank as well.

We appreciate your patience as we tried to get all of this worked out, and we look forward to seeing you all at the Coursing Ability Tests!

Don’t miss the friendliest little show in the midwest!

Free coffee all day, free day parking, refreshments served during groups, prizes in every breed, OFA eye clinic on Saturday, special Veteran’s class on Saturday, Best Brace in Show on Sunday, freestyle dog demonstration on Sunday, All-breed Coursing Ablity Test Sunday afternoon.

The show is inside on concrete. Plenty of grass and shade outside.

Chesapeake Bay Retriever supported entry, concurrent specialties for Dachshunds (FOUR chances for majors!) supported entries in Dobermans and English Setters.

Owner-Handler Series BOTH days.

Last year we had majors in 12 breeds each day.

New Champion rosette for people finishing their dogs at our show.

Great pork chop sandwiches. Come on out and see us!

We’re Having a Match! Sunday, October 19

Save the date now for our annual AKC Sanctioned “B” Match at Gem City Dog Club on Sunday, October 19th!

Entries taken from 10 to 11:30 a.m.  Judging Begins at Noon.

Entries are divided into Junior Puppy (3 – 6 mos), Senior Puppy (6 – 9 mos and 9 -12 mos) and Adult. There will be a Best Puppy in Match and a Best Adult Dog in Match.

Pre-entries can be sent to: Gary Sinck, 725 Xenia Ave, Dayton, OH 45410 please postmarked by Saturday, October 11th. (I know the poster says Friday, that’s an “oops”.)

Pre-entries are $8 each or 3 for $20. (All three dogs must have one owner in common.)

Day of Match entries are $10 each or 3 for $25. (All three dogs must have one owner in common.)

Dogs must be eligible for AKC registration, they must be in show trim. Please, no taped ears. Professional handlers may only handle dogs owned by themselves. Dogs with major points for exhibition only.

Due to declining entries (last year only two) there is no Junior Showmanship competition this year. Juniors are welcome to show in the breed ring of course.

Match is indoors in climate controlled facility. Due to special flooring for agility, there is absolutely no chalking allowed.

Gem City is at 1654 Springfield St. in Dayton. From I-75 or Route 4, take Findlay St. exit to Springfield St. Turn left on Springfield, building will be on your right, set back from the street, kind of hidden behind KOI auto parts. From US35 take Smithville Road NORTH, which ends in a t-junction with Springfield. Turn left on Springfield, building will be on your right, set back from the street, kind of hidden behind KOI auto parts.

Veteran’s Parade: Beautiful old dogs

Last year she was one of the bright stars in our Veteran’s Parade. This is Darla (Am/Can CH Kaja’s Little Rascal) who heard the call of the ring steward one more time. Now 13, last year Darla took that big open ring like she was still competing for Best in Show. You should’ve seen that girl move!

The Veterans Class at Fort St. Clair Kennel Club is a very special event. Open to any dog over the age of seven, the class is only competitive at the breed level, where after Best of Breed, the judge will pick a Best Veteran in Breed and a Best of Opposite Sex to Best Veteran in Breed. (The Best Veteran receives an orange rosette, best opposite an oversize lavender flat ribbon.)

On Sunday afternoon the winners of Best Veteran in Breed are invited to the group ring for exhibition. The applause is thunderous and there is hardly a dry eye in the house, watching these old campaigners take their victory laps.

The veterans class is open to dogs over seven years of age, and dogs may be spayed or neutered. Entry fee for this class is $10, and entries close this coming Wednesday, April 9. Even if you don’t have a veteran, you’ll want to make time to see the Parade of Veterans on Sunday afternoon, and all of the beautiful dogs like Darla.
