April 2017 Fast CAT and Premium List

Our Fast Cats are FILLED.

Check back with us for our fall Fast Cat Trials.

Interested in lure coursing?

Fort St. Clair Kennel Club is very pleased to announce our second Fast CAT (that’s “coursing ability test”– no cats involved.)  The test is held down an informal fenced “alley”, with a collection area at the end.  The alley is 100 yards long and dogs are timed as they follow the lure. Using a formula to convert time to miles-per-hour and a handicapping system based on the breed (open to all breeds and bulldogs aren’t expected to run as fast as Borzois) gives your dog a score. Three qualifying scores results in your dog’s first lure coursing trial.

Dogs must be at least a year old, we recommend that they run “naked” (no collar) and generally they are released by a helper to run towards their handler. If you were tempted by the regular CAT test, but worried that your dog would go walkabout, this might be the test for you.

Open to any dog who has a number from the AKC, including mixed breeds with a “Canine Companion” number and purebreds with an ILP, as well as regularly registered dogs. More info at the AKC’s FAST CAT page here.

We will be running two tests on Sunday afternoon, and if time and weather permits perhaps a practice run on Saturday.

The premium list and entry blanks are at this link.

Fort St. Clair’s Fabulous FAST CAT October 8th & 9th

Fort St. Clair Kennel Club is thrilled to announce their inaugural FAST CAT competitions, the first FAST CAT to be held in Ohio. The newest variation on lure coursing from the AKC, the FAST CAT is a timed 100-yard dash inside a fenced “alley”. Dogs compete against the clock rather than each other, and earn points for how fast they run. Earning 500 points results in a new title for the end of your dog’s name– BCAT.  Dogs of any breed are permitted to participate, and mixed breed dogs are welcome provided they have a “Canine Partner” number from the AKC. Dogs must be a year old. We will be running two tests each day on Saturday and Sunday, October 8th and 9th. Pre-entries are $15 per run, day of trial are $20.

You can read more about the FAST CAT here , and the link to the premium list is below.

And have no fear — absolutely no cats are involved in these tests!

Dog Show Entries Close Wednesday April 13

showposter2016

Don’t forget to get your entries in for our annual all-breed show– it closes Wednesday, April 13.

(That’s Cincinnati native and silent film star Theda Bara and her Borzoi Bella on this year’s poster.)

We are again featuring Best Veteran in Breed and Veteran Parade, Best Brace in Show, National Owner-Handler Series, and on Sunday afternoon, Coursing Ability Tests.

As always, parking is free, and there is complimentary coffee on tap all day long. We have goodies in the  morning (until they’re gone) and serve refreshments in the afternoon during groups. There’s a Best of Breed prize in every breed and extra prizes in many.

Yes, there is still a bit of Premium RV camping available– but all the camping is reasonably close with electric and water at each site. The Premium is guaranteed to be closest, and also has 50 amp (and 30+30 amp) service as well as sewer hookups.

If you haven’t visited us before, the show is indoors, in one big building, on concrete. Great vendors alongside the rings, plenty of free grooming space and a bit of reserved space available ($25 for the weekend) if  you just need to be absolutely certain there’s a spot for you.

We have a stellar judging panel this year, and we’re especially pleased to welcome Mr. Nicolas DeBedout from Bogota, Colombia.

It’s going to be a wonderful weekend, we hope to see you there!
